connells birth
4 days ago i gave birth to my 4th child. what an experience! when i think about it now i get really emotional from how awesome it was. i dont mean to brag or anything but i felt i deserved a good experience. i was already suffering from being in so much pain day in and day out. it was the hardest pregnacies i have ever had since day one. from being sick in bed and trying to raise 3 kids and than having all my mucsles all down my stomach and all down my back had been pulled. constant pain and burning from it and my siatic nerve was always in pain as well. to the least i didnt think i could make it to the end. at 30 weeks along i was willing to throw in the towel and be done. i knew i would have an unhealthy baby but all the pain i was in, it was easy to say that i didnt care anymore. :( which is really sad to say now and i regret even thinking of those words.
moving on to the story and how it all came about it...
Tuesday august 7th, i woke up around 6 am when my husband did for work. what woke me up was a contraction.. now for 2 weeks i was having on and off contractions and the friday before i thought i was in labor but it stopped. so here i wake up to a contraction that morning. It wasn't like any other contraction i was having before. it was way different and honestly quite painful. It would start in my lower abdomin and have like a crampy feel to it. Than after really painful crampy feeling it would move towards my hips than to my lower back and than harden. luckily they only lasted for about 20 seconds on and off. all morning i was having them but as the day went on they got more frequent and lasted longer. by the time my husband got home from work.. which was 3:30 pm. I was laying down and i said to him "i think im in labor" and he chuckled at me and said "you think your in labor?" haha thinking about it now makes me laugh cause who says that they "think" they are? oh well! so he said well if they get more consistent let me know but i have a bunch of things to do before young mens tonight.. (he is the young mens president now) so i went about my day and didnt think more of it.
that night came and he had combined young mens at our house so i told him i was going to go to a zumba class so i wouldn't interupt his activity. so me and my sister in law grabbed the kiddoes and headed to a zumba class. (hopeing to get in free and have free day care! :)) so we found one and sure enough my hopes came true! we found one that was free and had free day care! we signed in and went about the class. The whole time i was having contractions but didnt really notice cause i was invovled in the class and having to much fun :)
the class got over and i went home. by the time they were coming on more frequent and longer. and every time they would come i would have to stop and breath through them. i was starting to get uncomfortable so at 10 pm i decided to take a bath and just see if they would stop by me relaxing more. but they didnt stop. in fact the bath brought them on more. i was only in the bath for a half hour and decided i should get out and to start timing. Derek and I layed in bed and he started the timer. we timed them for about a half hour and they were 3-5 minutes apart lasting for 1 minute to 1 1/2 minutes.
so at this point i knew i was in labor cause they were coming consistently while laying down and relaxing. i couldnt keep still so i went on a walk up and down my street. and where i live its a pretty steep and long hill to up and down. so i started walking. i walked about 4 times up and down and by the time i got going back down the hill i could barely walk cause they were hurting so bad. i went inside and went to the bathroom and while going water came out of me (just a small trickle) i came out and said "babe we need to go now!" i called my mother to send my niece over to watch our kids over night. by this time i was getting scared cause they were so painful and were coming like every 2 to 3 minutes and i started to feel pressure. i started to panick to derek and told we needed to leave now or else it would be to late. we ended up leaving before my niece got there but she was only 5 minutes behind us. it still freaked me out to leave my kiddoes alone though. before we left i called and told them i was coming. so we left our house at 12:00 am we arrived at around 12:25 am. we walked in and all the staff were just really mellow and didnt really care that we were standing there. and by the way having contraction after contraction it was way annoying! finally a guy was like "can i help you?" and derek says "yes were here to have a baby" and they were like oh ok whats your name are you getting induced all these dumb questions. and finally my husband is like no she is labor right now. so a chick takes a back to get admited. i get dressed and lay down on the bed. the nurse that was helping me was awesome. she could tell immediatly that i was in a lot of pain and should check me before she did anything else. so she checks me and says... wow your at an 8! i made her repeat it cause i didnt believe her at first. i looked at derek and i was like im at an 8! and he was pretty shocked as well. she gets right up and starts going a million miles an hour on her computer. than all of a sudden you hear all the workers outside start going crazy and saying "that chick that just came in is at an 8!" cause no one believed us that i was in labor cause im really calm when im in pain. so they take me to a room and get me hooked up. oh before that i asked my nurse because i was so far along dialated that there was no point in giving me an IV. and she chuckled and said "well if you dont want an IV than we dont have to give you one, but you know that its best to get one" and i said yes i know but i dont want one. so she respected my wishes and didnt give me one! :) i will just say this right now that the biggest part of labor that i cant handle is the stupied IV! i cant stand them i would much rather go through a natural labor than deal with one of those!
anyway so we head to the room and get hooked to the moniters she gets me all set in the computer and by this time My mom and Lois are there as well. i was so glad that they came it calmed me down a ton cause it made the mood more easy going. i got a birthing ball and went through some contractions on that. i asked her to check me again cause before we got in the room my water had broke. so she checks me.. Im still at an 8 because there was another sack of fluid up there that didnt break.. and they already called my doctor so he was already there. so i told him to break it for me to help move it along faster. so he breaks it. OH BOY! thats when it all started going really fast! the contractions were coming on hard. but i couldnt sit still cause they were too painful to just sit there so i got up and started to squat down but by the time i got up i could feel a ton of pressure and wanted to started pushing. they checked me again and i was at a 9 so it was still to early to push but i felt the need to. my doctor said lets go ahead and have you push and i can try and push your cervix out of the way so the baby will drop down. so next contraction.. i pushed and he pushed and lo and behold his head was crowning. by than i started to go in a panick cause i was in so much pain. I really believe that when i was going through it. my mind went some where else and i just had to focus on pushing him out. i dont know how i delt with it cause i just remember thinking i cant do this, what have i got my self into! so i just started pushing and really didnt stop. i remember stoping one time after his head came out to breath and start on the next contraction to get his shoulders out. and that was really hard. i pushed twice to get his shoulders out and than the little guy just came out! :) derek counted and he said i pushed 5 times and he was out. the cord was wrapped around his neck so by the time he came out his face was really bruised from the loss of oxygen. so poor little connell had a black face for a couple days.
after i pushed him out i just held him and kissed him for a long time. pictures were taken, he was cleaned and wieghed and than we were able to go upstairs. after he came out the after birth pains came on immediatly. i decided that i wasn't going to nurse so i was able to get some pain killers. which was nice cause even on the pain meds i was still in a lot of pain so i dont know how i would of survived without them!
i forgot to mention through all of this what the times were. so i arrived at the hospital at 12:25 am. they admitted and got me hooked up at 12:45 am. my doctor broke the second sack of water at 1:15 am. i pushed him out at 1:38 am. overall time i would have to say 1 hour from being admitted to pushing out! and it was the best hour spent! :)
Over all this experience was the best i have ever had. it was really relaxing and enjoyable. the nurses were all so awesome. my doctor was awesome he was there the minute i got there and just came in and out the whole time until i was ready. my mom and lois being there was awesome cause it made it really relaxing and it gave derek someone to be with when i was doing my thing. i just have to thank my heavenly father for blessing me with that expeience and being able to have the strength to go through it.
for 2 months i was so nervous for what was to come and the pain i was going to have to endure. and it turned out to be the best experience ever! and im so grateful for that.
We have a healthy baby boy now and his parents and siblings could not be happier. we cant get enough of him! :) he is so perfect in every way and i love him to pieces.
